The Saarinen Womb Settee is suitable for two people. The two-seat settee was not originally part of the designer's famous trio - the Womb Chair Model 70, the Executive Arm Chair Model 71 and the Executive Armless Chair Model 72 - but rather was created in anticipation of Saarinen's first major architectural commission: the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan - a twenty-five building complex that required furnishings for more than 5,000 people. The seat shell is made of foam-coated molded fiberglass. The base is steel bar with a polished chrome or black lacquer finish.
